This Privacy Policy explains how Vamhi ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares your personal information when you use our dating application. Please read this document carefully. By creating an account or using Vamhi, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

This policy complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) of India and applicable provisions of Google Play Store requirements.

1. Who We Are

Vamhi is a dating application designed to help adults find meaningful connections. We are the data fiduciary responsible for your personal data collected through the Vamhi mobile application available on the Google Play Store.

Note on Sensitive Data: Sexual preference is classified as sensitive personal data under the DPDP Act 2023. We collect this only with your explicit, informed consent at the time of profile creation. You may update or withdraw this at any time from your profile settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

3.1 Core Matchmaking & App Functionality

  • To create and display your profile to other users

  • To suggest potential matches based on your location, preferences, and profile

  • To enable the swipe, match, and chat features

  • To operate our profile review feature, which ensures profile authenticity before a profile becomes publicly visible

3.2 Account Safety & Verification

  • Your phone number is used exclusively for OTP-based authentication via Firebase. It is not displayed to other users.

  • To verify your identity and prevent fake or duplicate accounts

  • To investigate reports of abuse, harassment, or policy violations

3.3 Internal Improvement & Analytics

  • To analyse aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to improve matching algorithms and app features

  • To debug technical issues and improve app performance

  • To develop new features based on how users interact with the app

We do not use your personal data for advertising or sell it to third-party advertisers. Your data is used internally to make Vamhi work better for you.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:

4.1 With Other Vamhi Users

Your profile information (name, photos, age, height, interests, education, and approximate location) is visible to other users of Vamhi as part of the core matchmaking experience. Your phone number is never shared with other users.

4.2 With Our Service Providers

We use Google Firebase as our backend infrastructure provider for:

  • Phone number OTP authentication (Firebase Authentication)

  • Data storage and real-time messaging (Firebase Firestore)

  • File storage for profile photos (Firebase Storage)

  • Crash reporting and performance monitoring (Firebase Crashlytics / Performance)

Firebase is provided by Google LLC. Your phone number is shared with Firebase solely for the purpose of generating and verifying OTPs. Firebase operates under Google's privacy and security standards. You can review Google's data processing terms at firebase.google.com.

4.3 With Our Subsidiaries

We may share your data internally with our subsidiary companies for the purposes of improving the Vamhi product, conducting internal analytics, and developing new features. All subsidiaries are bound by the same data protection obligations as Vamhi.

4.4 For Legal & Safety Reasons

We may disclose your personal data — including data from reported profiles — to law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, or courts in India when:

  • We are required to do so by law or a valid legal order

  • We believe it is necessary to prevent harm, fraud, or illegal activity

  • A user's profile has been reported and the matter requires escalation to government authorities

Data Retention for Reported Profiles: If your profile is reported by another user, data associated with that report may be retained beyond our standard 30-day deletion period. This retention is limited to the period necessary for investigation and any legal proceedings, and is required by law.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account:

  • Your profile, photos, and personal information are permanently deleted or anonymised within 30 days of your deletion request.

  • Your chat messages are deleted from active servers within 30 days.

  • Aggregated, anonymised analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.

  • Data related to reported profiles or ongoing investigations may be retained for longer periods as required by applicable law or to cooperate with government authorities.

How to delete your account: Go to Settings in the Vamhi app and tap "Delete Account". This will initiate the deletion process. You will receive a confirmation once your data has been removed. You may also contact support@vamhi.com with your phone number to request deletion. Or you can raise a support ticket on https://vamhi.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portals

6. Your Rights Under the DPDP Act 2023

As a user in India, you have the following rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:

  • Right to Access — You may request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.

  • Right to Correction — You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.

  • Right to Erasure — You may request deletion of your personal data by deleting your account through the app or by contacting us.

  • Right to Grievance Redressal — You may raise a complaint with us if you believe your data rights have been violated.

  • Right to Withdraw Consent — You may withdraw consent for the collection of sensitive personal data (such as sexual preference) at any time through your profile settings.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@vamhi.com with the subject line "Data Rights Request". We will respond within 72 hours.

7. How We Protect Your Data

We take the security of your personal data seriously. Our security measures include:

  • All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.

  • Phone number authentication is handled by Google Firebase, which is ISO 27001 certified.

  • Profile photos are stored in private cloud storage and are only accessible via time-limited, signed URLs.

  • Our servers and databases are protected by access controls, and only authorised personnel can access user data.

  • We conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is completely immune to security risks. We encourage you to use a strong, unique phone number that is in your control and to report any suspicious activity to support@vamhi.com.

8. Age Requirement

Vamhi is strictly for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. Users must confirm they are 18 or older during account creation. If we become aware that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately suspended and their data deleted. If you believe a minor is using Vamhi, please report it to support@vamhi.com.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or new features. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Notify you via a push notification or an in-app message.

  • Update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document.

  • Where required by law, seek your renewed consent.

Continued use of Vamhi after notification of changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
